Man held on high bond in student attack

ARLINGTON, Mass. — A man accused of assaulting a child in Arlington has died.

Patrick Barry, 21, of Medford, was being held on $1 million bail after he was accused of assaulting a student who was walking home from school.

Barry required emergency care, and he was taken to Lowell General Hospital and later transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he died early Friday, according to the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office.

Barry was arrested after a sketch of the suspect was released and a probation officer called police saying a man already on probation and wearing a GPS monitor fit the description of the attacker.

Barry was charged with indecent assault and battery on a child over 14 years of age. He was charged last June with two separate violent attacks on young women in Boston.

Barry’s bail was revoked on open court cases out of Suffolk County.
