WORCESTER, Mass. — Several buildings in Worcester were evacuated Monday night because of a natural gas leak.

The fire department said manholes with covers were emitting dangerous levels of gas in Webster Square.

The buildings, which are mostly businesses, are in the area of Main and Mill streets.

Mill Street was closed between Park Avenue and Main Street.  NStar crews identified a break in a 6-inch pipe and were making repairs.

The gas company’s response to the leak was delayed because crews were sent to the wrong address, firefighters said.
