Today’s headlines are tragic…
19 firefighters gave their lives to fighting the Yarnell Hill fire in Arizona. These brave souls ranged in age from 21 to 43. They made up 20% of the Prescott fire department.
Agawam is one of many areas devastated by yesterday’s storms. While there was no official tornadoes in Massachusetts, the damage was still done. There were many trees down knocking out power. 15-20 cars were also damaged.
Torrential downpours did cause street flooding, like Canal street in Holyoke and Liberty Street in Springfield and Chicopee, MA.
Shawn Clark the much-loved owner of a Patriots Skateboards in Malden, MA. Two assailants decided to dress up in dark clothing and savagely attack the 39-year-old man killing him for reasons unknown.
In Dover, NH Christina Thomas convicted of first degree assault back in February for starving a 6-year-old that was under her care. He was just a mere 23 pounds when she was arrested. The boy is now putting on weight with his adoptive family and his birth mother Peggy Star has been charged in connection with the case. Christina will have the next 10-30 years to think about what she has done. Somehow, it doesn’t seem like enough to me.
The one nice thing was seeing Governor Deval Patrick holding his 2 month old grandson, Gianluca Noah Patrick Morgese who is the son of the governors oldest daughter Sarah Baker Patrick Morgese. Her son was born 2 months early only weighing 2 pounds and 8 ounces. There is much to celebrate for this family.
Despite all the tragedy, we can always find the good. Most often, tragedy brings people together. It’s just sad when it has to come to that.
