Archives For Interstate 495
Lt. Robert Finacom told The Enterprise, an unidentified car struck the unmarked cruiser on Warren Avenue near Arthur Paquin Way, at 2:12 p.m. Wednesday.
The force of the impact pushed the cruiser off the road and into the side of a building near the intersection, he said.
The driver of the other car sped off in an unknown direction. The cruiser sustained significant damage, he said.
The trooper was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was treated for a nose injury and scratches, Finacom said.
Roughly an hour after the crash, police questioned a man whose car they believed matched the description of that involved in the crash. The driver of the unidentified car was questioned by police at an apartment complex on Pine Grove Drive, state police said.
As of Wednesday night, no arrests were made, Finacom said.
Finacom would not discuss further details of the crash or what may have caused it, saying that the crash remains under investigation.
Wednesday’s incident marks the second time in a month a state police trooper has been injured in a crash.
On Nov. 17, a state police sergeant was injured after a driver struck her cruiser during a traffic stop in Raynham.
The sergeant had made the stop on Interstate 495 northbound, near Route 24, and was inside her cruiser when it was rear-ended by a 2012 Camry driven by a 44-year-old Northboro woman, state police said.
The driver of the Camry pushed the cruiser into the vehicle it had stopped. The sergeant was treated and later released.
