Temporary headquarters set up

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The Dartmouth police department was shut down right now after Legionnaire’s disease was detected in the building’s hot water system.

Emergency calls are being sent to a Dartmouth dispatcher at the Westport Police Department.

A temporary headquarters has been set up in a mobile command center behind the closed building.

One Dartmouth officer was hospitalized with the bacterial pneumonia about a month ago, sparking the sudden testing.

Former Roger Williams University law school student wanted to ‘shoot up’ school

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — A man suspected of sending a threatening email to some faculty and staff at Roger Williams University Law School in Rhode Island has peacefully surrendered to police after a six-hour standoff at his Massachusetts home.

Dartmouth Police Chief Timothy Lee said the 36-year-old man surrendered Tuesday evening after police told him they were going to cut off power to the house.

Watch report

The university said it received the email from a former law school student Tuesday morning. Police said it included threats to “shoot up” RWU campuses in Bristol and Providence, R.I.

Police said the man was being evaluated at a hospital but is expected to face charges.

Some relatives told reporters he had been depressed and they didn’t think he was armed.

Police said the man’s father, who left the home after officers arrived, said he had weapons.
