Several streets closed Monday night
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — With a new round of snow set to hit New Hampshire Tuesday, crews will be busy clearing more of the snow that fell this weekend.

In Portsmouth, officials are closing down several streets Monday night to remove large snowbanks in anticipation of more snow Tuesday.

The snowbanks have been presenting all sorts of problems, from parking to cars maneuvering through the streets. To prevent it from getting worse, starting at 8 p.m. Monday, the city of Portsmouth is doing a snow-removal operation.

Signs have been posted in the areas being impacted.

Streets will close down in increments, starting at 8 p.m., then at 9 p.m. and so on until midnight, so plows can remove the existing snow.

Meanwhile, there has been so much snow as of late, many local home supply stores have bare shelves. Some stores are running out of salt or other snow-removal supplies.

“We’ve gone through so much probably a couple palettes in the past weekend. On Saturday, we probably moved about 100 bags of salt. No one seems to have any (in) town so it’s all disappearing,” said Bill Valway of Ricci’s Lumber and Ace Hardware.

The snow is expected to be heaviest from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday
