Woman escapes through window as car sinks
A car plunged into water in Fairhaven after the driver mistook a boat ramp for a road, police said.
Police were called to Bridge Street at 5:15 a.m. Police found a 2007 Nissan Maxima in the water about 50 feet from shore.
The driver, Tami Pitter, 32, of Rochester, got lost as she was traveling west on Bridge Street, which ends at a boat ramp that Pitter mistook as a continuation of the road, police said.
Pitter was able to escape through the passenger-side window. She was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital.
James Rocha, of Unlimited Dive Technologies, along with Troy Werner waded out to the vehicle and rigged it with equipment that allowed it to be pulled out of the water.
