Parents hadn’t seen children in six months
But waiting in the wings of a Methuen school were two soldiers who hadn’t seen their kids in six months.
Douglas Vallant and Melissa Vallant are both in the U.S. Army and wanted to surprise their kids, 8-year-old James Vallant and 3-year-old Arianna Vallant.
“We have a little personal bet on who’s going to cry first,” Douglas Vallant said.
The two children sang “Blue Christmas,” thinking it was going to be recorded and sent to their parents.
And then the big reveal happened.
“This is the best Christmas ever,” James Vallant said. “My wish came true.”
Melissa Vallant said she and Douglas Vallant had talked to the kids by video, but it didn’t compare to the real thing.
“You miss your kids like crazy,” she said. “You never really understand until they’re gone and you feel it. It’s hard.”
