Child placed in state custody

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. —Vermont State Police say a Bennington man is accused of smuggling drugs into the South Burlington Prison on an infant who was visiting with a female inmate.

Twenty-seven-year-old David Willette is facing charges of smuggling narcotics into the prison, reckless endangerment of a child, possession of narcotics and conspiracy. He was being held on a probation violation charge on Saturday.

Police say they received a tip that the narcotics could be smuggled into the facility on an infant.

The inmate, 35-year-old Julea Larsen, has been cited for conspiracy.

Both are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 30. It was not immediately known if they are being represented by lawyers.

The child was placed in state custody and evaluated by the facility’s medical personal.
