Driver charged with negligent operation

SHAFTSBURY, Vt. — Vermont State Police say slippery road conditions didn’t slow down a New York man accused of driving 101 mph in a 55 mph zone.

Thirty-two-year-old Jay Philippi of Cold Spring, N.Y., was arrested Saturday afternoon in Shaftsbury. Police say he was driving a Jeep Cherokee that was clocked at 101 mph on Route 7 at a time when slush and snow covered the road.

Philippi was charged with negligent operation. He could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday.
