The Bodies of Missing Louisiana Couple Found in Their Pickup at Truck Stop, Cops Say They Were Strangled
YARMOUTH, Mass. —A West Yarmouth man has been charged with assault and battery after an attack on a pregnant woman at a motel, police said.
Yarmouth police were called to the Tidewater Motor Lodge on Tuesday for a report of a domestic assault in progress.
When police arrived at the motel, they found the door to a room kicked in and the door frame shattered.
Inside the room, police said they found Matthew D. Chicoine, 22, in the middle of the room. Police described him as “hostile, enraged and uncooperative.”
Police also found a crying, 5 ½-month-pregnant woman with blood on her hands and face. The woman told police Chicoine hit her in the face numerous times, ripped the telephone from the wall as she tried to call for help and strangled her twice to the point she blacked out.
She said Chicoine deliberately smashed her head against the table in the room, against the floor in the room and kicked the bathroom door in on top of her as she shielded their 18-month-old child, police said.
Chicoine was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on charges of assault and battery on a pregnant person; three counts of aggravated assault and battery while armed with a dangerous weapon; attempted murder; being in possession of a dangerous weapon, a knife, during a disturbance; intimidation of a witness; and two counts of malicious destruction of property.
