Catherine Salvi had 2-year-old son

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —A 24-year-old Woonsocket woman has died three weeks after police say she was beaten by her boyfriend and suffered severe head injuries that left her in a coma.
A spokeswoman for Rhode Island Hospital says Catherine Salvi died at about 11:45 p.m. Sunday. She leaves behind a 2-year-old son.
Woonsocket police charged Salvi’s boyfriend, 21-year-old Emmanuel Algaria, with felony domestic assault after the Dec. 13 attack in the couple’s apartment. He remains jailed without bail. A message seeking comment was left Monday with his public defender.
Detective Jamie Paone says the assault remains under investigation and prosecutors will determine whether to file more serious charges against Algaria.
