DURHAM, N.H. — A former University of New Hampshire student was arrested Friday in connection with a series of “peeping Tom” incidents at the university.

Kewei Chen, 18, of Ningbo Cixi, China, is under investigation on suspicion of breaking into a dorm room and making video recordings in female bathrooms. This is just one of a number of incidents that have occurred over the last five weeks that officials believe Chen may be connected with.

Police said Chen was a student when the incidents occurred, but is not currently a student and is banned from the campus.

UNH Police Chief Paul Dean said that being able to identify Chen was the result of great teamwork.

“Our department’s No. 1 priority is the safety and well-being of our campus community,” Dean said. “Everyone was committed to bringing this to a stop, and their persistence made it possible.”

Chen is being held on $15,000 cash bail on charges of burglary, attempted burglary, violation of privacy and criminal trespass. He has surrendered his passport to police and is scheduled to appear in Dover Circuit Court Monday.
