Police say pair followed woman home
WORCESTER, Mass. — Two people were arrested Friday after Worcester police say they attacked a disabled woman after she cashed in winnings from a lottery ticket.
Police said the 48-year-old victim walked into a Shell Gas Station on Lincoln Street Wednesday to cash in winnings from a scratch-off lottery ticket.
A woman, later identified as 38-year-old Wendy Laporte, began to watch the victim, police said, and watched the woman collect her winnings.
The clerk became concerned about Laporte’s behavior and walked the victim to her car where her mother was waiting for her.
Police said Laporte then got into another vehicle with a man identified as Dawud McKenzie, 26, of Worcester, behind the wheel.
The pair then followed the victim and her mother, and when the victim was dropped off in front of her apartment, McKenzie approached her, pushed her into a snow pile, grabbed her arm and demanded she hand over all of her lottery winnings.
The victim complied and McKenzie took the cash and fled the scene.
The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for an injury to the arm.
Worcester police said they were able to identify McKenzie and Laporte and arrest them.
McKenzie and Laporte were both charged with armed robbery while masked and assault and battery of a disabled person.
