Train carrying new vehicles derails in Gardner

GARDNER, Mass. — Officials with the Gardner Fire Department said emergency crews are investigating a train derailment in town.

Emergency officials said the derailment was reported just before 4 p.m. Wednesday in the area of South Main Street.

Gardner Mayor Mark Hawke said Route 2A, which is also known as West Broadway, should reopen late Wednesday night, but South Main Street could remain closed for days.

Officials said the train was carrying new vehicles when it derailed.

No injuries have been reported at this point, officials said.
