Man with Alzheimer’s disease wasn’t aware wife died
JOHNSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island authorities say a 71-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia had lived with his dead wife’s body for at least two days before officials entered the home this week.
Police in Johnston say the man’s 67-year-old wife died a few days ago and he wasn’t aware that she had passed. Authorities say there were no signs of foul play.
Authorities say the man called the Fire Department on Wednesday and officials found the woman’s body and a dead dog. The home was condemned because of what authorities called deplorable living conditions.
The man was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and officials were trying to contact his family. The medical examiner’s office is investigating how the woman died.
Michele Savoia’s body discovered off Chelsea Piers
NEW YORK — New York police have identified the body of a man found floating on the Manhattan side of the Hudson River as that of a fashion designer who was reported missing last week.
Police say 55-year-old Michele Savoia’s body was discovered off Chelsea Piers on Sunday afternoon not far from where he lived aboard his boat. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
It wasn’t clear how Savoia ended up in the river, but police do not suspect foul play. He was last seen alive leaving a nearby nightclub early Thursday morning.
Media reports say Savoia designed hand-crafted suits for celebrities and had a boutique on the Lower East Side.
Savoia reportedly dressed Robert DeNiro, Matt Dillon and other notables. According to Savoia’s Facebook page, he was from Hoboken, New Jersey, and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in the 1970s.
Savoia was described as a “tattooed, needle-wielding daredevil” in an article by Fashion Week Daily in 2011.

Andre Forest was found unconscious near the back door of his burning home just before noon Thursday.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Neighbors say Forest was a widower and a diabetic who lived in the home alone. He had lived there for about 50 years. He also went by his Native American name, Grey Wolf.

Brimfield house had been spared by 2011 tornado
State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Brimfield Fire Chief Fred Piechota said the man, who was not immediately identified, was the only person in the single-family home on Hollow Street at the time of the fire. The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived shortly after midnight on Wednesday.
Officials said part of the building collapsed during the fire and it took several hours for crews to locate and recover the body.
An autopsy is planned.
The fire marshal’s office, the Hampden District Attorney and local authorities are investigating.
The house was one of only a few in the neighborhood that was spared when a tornado hit the town in June 2011.
