Penn State said it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men over Jerry Sandusky abuse claims, The Associated Press reported.

The university, saying it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year, said 23 deals have been signed while three are agreements in principle, the report said.

Sandusky was convicted in June 2012 on 45 counts of child sex abuse. He was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.

A 267-page review by former FBI Director Louis Freeh blamed late head coach Joe Paterno, former university President Graham Spanier, suspended Athletic Director Tim Curley and ex-Vice President Gary Schultz for allegedly taking part in a cover-up to avoid bad publicity.

The scandal led to Spanier’s ouster and shocked the nation after Freeh’s team concluded that the school’s top administrators had “empowered” Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator for the football team, to continue his abuse.

In July 2012, the NCAA levied unprecedented sanctions against the university, including a fine of $60 million. It also stripped 14 seasons of football victories from Paterno.

Paterno died in 2012, his iconic reputation in tatters.

Police in Taunton are investigating a series of house break-ins during the overnight hours when residents are sleeping.

Investigators said in each case, the suspect approached the sleeping female victim in her bed and made some form of physical contact with her.

Police said the contact has happened regardless of whether someone else was also in the bed with the female victim.

Police said in the most recent case, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim.

When confronted by victims, the suspect has said that he was homeless and looking for food before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as a stocky white male with dark hair and a light beard.

Police are urging residents to lock their doors and windows and to pay attention to strangers in the neighborhood.

They believe the man has been able to gain entry into the victims’ homes through open windows.

Anyone who has specific information concerning the burglar is urged to contact the Taunton Police Detective Division at 508-821-1471
