Archives For Sex Offenders

UXBRIDGE, Mass. — A Level 3 sex offender and $10 million lottery winner living in Uxbridge was arrested on new charges Friday, according to a press release from the Uxbridge Police Department.

News partner The Milford Daily News reports that Daniel T. Snay, 62, of 558 Elmwood Ave., was arrested Friday and charged with indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 – a subsequent offense, reckless endangerment of a child, enticement of a child and dissemination of pornography to a minor, police said.

In court Monday, Snay was ordered held on $5 million bail.

According to a press release from Uxbridge Police Chief Leffrey Lourie, the new crimes Snay is accused of took place during a four-year period. Uxbridge police are working with police in Connecticut and Rhode Island as some of the alleged offenses happened in those states, police said.

Snay is listed by the Sex Offender Registry Board as a Level 3 sex offender, with convictions for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 in 1974 and 1976.

In 2008, Snay won $10 million on a scratch ticket from the Massachusetts State Lottery. Police said in the release Sunday that his winnings were used to carry out the crimes leading to his arrest this week.

Department spokeswoman Melanie Blodgett-O’Toole said on Sunday that no additional information would be released until Monday, when Snay is scheduled to be arraigned in Uxbridge District Court.

Police are asking anyone who knows of any illegal activity involving Snay to contact the department’s sexual assault unit at 508-278-7755.

Police said they received a report that Jenny was hanging around at the library, at 735 Main St., and officers were sent to keep an eye on him. Police said that while Jenny was in the library he began to masturbate near two women, who didn’t see him, but employees informed the police and he was immediately arrested.

Jenny, who previously registered as a Level 3 sex offender, is considered a high-risk individual by the state and must inform police whenever he changes addresses.

Police said they heard Jenny was no longer living at his Waltham address at 2 Wellington St., as listed on the state Sex Offender Registry Board website, and did not notify police.

Jenny was placed on the sex offender’s list after being convicted in Florida on one count of indecent assault and battery of a child under the age of 14.

BOSTON

Five of the state’s 10 most wanted sex offenders have been arrested in the past 36 hours, according to state police.

Lennell York, 42, was arrested on Tuesday after a tip he was at a home in Fitchburg.

York was wanted in Fitchburg District Court for failure to register as a sex offender. York was convicted in 1999 of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and in 1993 of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and procuring alcohol for a minor in Templeton.

Roberto Jimenez was arrested Tuesday in Holyoke after attempting to hide in a closet. Jimenez had two outstanding warrants for indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and for failure to register as a sex offender.

In 2006, Jimenez was convicted of two counts of rape of a child under 16 years of age and one count of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age for a Springfield sexual assault. The victim in that case was a 12-year-old boy who met Jimenez in an online chat room. Jimenez convinced the boy to meet him under the guise of playing video games and then sexually assaulted him.

Alan J. Howard, 41, was arrested walking down the street in East Boston on Tuesday. He had two outstanding warrants from East Boston District Court for failure to register as a sex offender and a additional charge of threatening to commit a crime. In 1995, Howard was convicted in Charlestown District Court of indecent assault and battery on a child who was 4 years old at the time.

In 1998 Quinones brutally attacked a woman who was holding her young child with a knife. Threatening to kill the woman, Quinones violently slashed at both victims with such force that the knife broke during the altercation. Both the woman and child suffered injuries during the attack. Quinones was convicted of assault to kill and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. In 2004, Quinones was convicted of assault with intent to rape in the state of Rhode Island.

Penn State said it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men over Jerry Sandusky abuse claims, The Associated Press reported.

The university, saying it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year, said 23 deals have been signed while three are agreements in principle, the report said.

Sandusky was convicted in June 2012 on 45 counts of child sex abuse. He was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.

A 267-page review by former FBI Director Louis Freeh blamed late head coach Joe Paterno, former university President Graham Spanier, suspended Athletic Director Tim Curley and ex-Vice President Gary Schultz for allegedly taking part in a cover-up to avoid bad publicity.

The scandal led to Spanier’s ouster and shocked the nation after Freeh’s team concluded that the school’s top administrators had “empowered” Sandusky, the former defensive coordinator for the football team, to continue his abuse.

In July 2012, the NCAA levied unprecedented sanctions against the university, including a fine of $60 million. It also stripped 14 seasons of football victories from Paterno.

Paterno died in 2012, his iconic reputation in tatters.

Police in Taunton are investigating a series of house break-ins during the overnight hours when residents are sleeping.

Investigators said in each case, the suspect approached the sleeping female victim in her bed and made some form of physical contact with her.

Police said the contact has happened regardless of whether someone else was also in the bed with the female victim.

Police said in the most recent case, the suspect sexually assaulted the victim.

When confronted by victims, the suspect has said that he was homeless and looking for food before fleeing the scene.

The suspect is described as a stocky white male with dark hair and a light beard.

Police are urging residents to lock their doors and windows and to pay attention to strangers in the neighborhood.

They believe the man has been able to gain entry into the victims’ homes through open windows.

Anyone who has specific information concerning the burglar is urged to contact the Taunton Police Detective Division at 508-821-1471
