Driver escapes crash, calls for help
DOUGLAS, Mass. —A station wagon slid off a road in Douglas on Sunday night and landed upside down in a pond.
The driver, Jeffrey Stanhope of Douglas, managed to get out on his own and swim to shore after the vehicle went off Wallis Street, the Telegram and Gazette reported.
The vehicle was submerged in several feet of icy water. Stanhope went to a nearby house to call for help.
When emergency crews arrived, he was treated for minor injuries. Crews also got the heavily damaged vehicle out of the water.
