Ricky Prezioso held on $5,000 bail

BOSTON — A 41-year old Swampscott man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a bicyclist in Charlestown.

The incident happened in Sullivan Square near Cambridge and Spice streets at 1:40 p.m. Thursday.

Ricky Prezioso was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Jake Wark.

Prezioso was held on $5,000 bail. He will return to court on May 19.

The man who was killed has not been identified.

Police said Thursday night that they had located a truck that had been described as a sanitation truck with black lettering and a “person of interest” was being interviewed.

“We ran up to the top of the street to see if there were any signs of the gentleman moving,” one witness said.

“There are a lot of bikes — every day — and the trucks and the cars that come by here, they don’t stop at the stop sign,” a local business owner said.

Bicyclist flown to Boston hospital

NASHUA, N.H. —A man was seriously injured and flown to a Boston hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while walking a bicycle across a street in Nashua.

Police said Kevin Johnson, 55, of Nashua, was crossing Route 101A or Amherst Street near the intersection with Deerwood Drive during the morning commute when he was struck by a minivan.

“We’re going to have the accident reconstruction team here later this morning, and people can expect to see police here for much of the day,” said Lt. Michael Moushegian.

Police said it’s possible solar glare was a factor in the crash.

Witnesses said Johnson had just purchased a newspaper on the corner and was trying to cross the street about 100 feet from a crosswalk.

“It’s heavy traffic, very heavy traffic,” said witness Pam Signoretti. “There’s always people trying to run across the road. The bus stop’s right there, right across the street.”

Nashua police said they are investigating whether any surveillance cameras recorded the crash.

Johnson’s injuries were described as grave. The 21-year-old Nashua woman driving the minivan was not hurt.
